Lakers D'Angelo Russell faces scrutiny for behavior on the bench during team's playoff meltdown

On April 26, 2024

Los Angeles Lakers starting point guard D'AngRead more

D’Angelo Russell had a resurgent regular season, but his postseason has not been very good. The Los Angeles Lakers guard missed 13 of his final 16 shot attempts during a Game 1 defeat to the defending NBA champion Denver Nuggets.

The Lakers dropped Game 2 in Denver, before returning to Los Angeles for Game 3 of the first-round series, which did not go the Lakers' way either.

In the game's final minutes, Russell was spotted sitting sideways on the bench late in the game as his Lakers teammates huddled to strategize a comeback. Los Angeles lost 112-105 and is on the brink of elimination.

It remains unclear if Russell intended to opt out of the team huddle. He had another frustrating game, missing all seven of his shots from the field and finishing the night with zero points.

Fans inside the Lakers' arena began to voice their displeasure with Russell's performance as the game progressed, and he was eventually benched.

Although the 28-year-old guard struggled on the offensive end, he grabbed three rebounds and blocked a shot.

Russell's recent struggles brought back memories of his offensive issues against the Nuggets in the 2023 Western Conference finals. But the Lakers still appear to believe in the All-Star point guard.

"D-Lo is a huge reason why we're here in the first place," Lakers coach Darvin Ham said earlier this week after the Lakers' Game 1 loss. "I'm not going to bail out on my player just because he's missing the shots that he normally makes. Same shots were going in against New Orleans [in the play-in tournament] and other games that he's played in to help us get to this point. So, it just wasn't his night."

The Lakers have dropped seven consecutive playoff games to the Nuggets.

A British tourist is in a hospital after a shark attack; Tobago closes several beaches

A shark attacked a British tourist on Friday in the southeastern Caribbean, prompting the government of Trinidad & Tobago to close seven beaches and a marine park. The man was hospitalized in an intensive care unit following the attack, officials said.

The closure included beaches along the northwestern coast of the island of Tobago. The attack occurred at Turtle Beach along Great Courland Bay.

The government said in a statement that shark sightings were reported in the Grafton area and the Buccoo Reef Marine Park. Officials said the closures will allow the Coast Guard and Department of Fisheries to investigate the incident and "neutralize the shark threat, if possible."

Shark attacks are rare. Last year, there were 69 unprovoked attacks and 22 provoked bites worldwide, along with 14 fatalities, according to the Florida-based International Shark Attack File.

GOP blasts Dems' 'out-of-touch' warning of no more White House Correspondents' Dinners if Trump wins election

Republicans are going after Democrats' bid toRead more

FIRST ON FOX: The GOP is blasting President Biden’s campaign over an "out-of-touch" memo warning that former President Trump’s re-election could mean the end of one of Washington’s most glamorous traditions.

The White House Correspondents' Dinner and the days leading up to it are an annual social event, frequently invitation-only, where D.C.’s elite in media, journalism and politics gather for a celebration of the press.

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) warned Thursday evening that Trump returning to the White House could put a stop to the festivities.

BIDEN VOWS TO LET TRUMP-ERA TAX CUTS EXPIRE NEXT YEAR, MEANING HIGHER RATES FOR MANY

The Republican National Committee (RNC) on Friday told Fox News Digital in response, "The fact that Joe Biden is pandering to journalists by threatening their annual ego-stroking elites fest is pathetic and out of touch, but it goes to show that Democrats can't win on the issues."

"Biden can spend 2024 vacationing in Delaware and rubbing elbows with East Coast elites all he wants, but President Trump and Republicans will continue to talk about the issues that matter and present solutions to Biden's failures on everything from the economy to the border," RNC spokesperson Anna Kelly said.

Trump never attended the event as president. He held a rally with supporters in 2019 instead and even prohibited his administration officials from attending, according to Reuters. It was canceled in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

NEW POLL SHOWS BIDEN'S 2024 LEAD VANISHING WITH TRUMP ON TRIAL

Democrats’ Thursday evening statement criticized Trump for shunning the dinner, arguing it was another way Trump was showing contempt for journalists and the First Amendment.

"We hope everyone has a good time this weekend, because if Donald Trump wins in November, this Saturday could also be known as the last White House Correspondents’ Dinner. To state the obvious: Trump is a thin-skinned narcissist who – despite spending seemingly every waking moment glued to his seat consuming cable news – is constantly attacking the free press and unable to handle a little good-natured ribbing," DNC rapid response director Alex Floyd said.

"He skipped the White House Correspondents’ Dinner every single year he was in office because of his deep-seated insecurities and pathetic desperation to be liked by the same people he rails against, and that was before he outright banned members of his administration from attending at all.

TRUMP ATTORNEY, SUPREME COURT JUSTICE CLASH ON WHETHER A PRESIDENT WHO 'ORDERED' A 'COUP' COULD BE PROSECUTED

"Fun and jokes aside this weekend, Saturday is also a reminder of what’s at stake with an angry, vengeful Trump on the ballot. He may be a punchline, but he is also a sad, vindictive wannabe authoritarian who shows no respect for the First Amendment – or the Fourth Estate."

The Trump campaign did not respond to a request for comment.

The DNC declined to provide additional comment.

Jewish students at the University of Texas say escalating antisemitism is spiraling into pure 'Jew hatred'

On April 26, 2024

One UT Austin student told Fox News Digital that hRead more

As students chanted "From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free," Jewish students spoke with Fox News Digital about the antisemitism and extreme anger they have experienced on campus during this week's protests.

Hundreds of protesters gathered on campus at the University of Texas at Austin on Wednesday to participate in an unruly anti-Israel protest that included "significant participation by outside groups," according to a statement from the school. Nearly 60 people were arrested, but criminal charges were dropped against 46 of the 57 protesters.

UT Austin joined universities like Columbia and Yale, as well as the University of Southern California, where anti-Israel protests have made headlines in recent days. UT Austin said the protest was organized by the Palestine Solidarity Committee, which it said seeks to "paralyze the operations of universities across the country."

Amid the protest, an anti-Israel student could be heard telling a Jewish student, "F--- you Zion Nazi b----," and multiple students told Fox News Digital that they had been approached and told to "go back to Germany." Other chants like "APD, KKK, IDF / they're all the same," were also heard, comparing the Austin Police Department and Israeli Defense Forces to the KKK.

Levi, a Jewish student who wore a kippah and an Israeli flag tied over his shoulders, told Fox News Digital Wednesday that the protest was made up of "pro-Hamas" individuals, but expressed his gratitude to law enforcement for making sure everybody remained "relatively peaceful."

"We have seen a few acts of violence against the officers," he said. "I've seen a lot of angry people, I've seen a lot of people that have been crying, I've heard a lot of Jew hatred. I don't call it antisemitism anymore, I think that's sugarcoating it, it's Jew hatred when a girl walks up to me and says, ‘You should go back to Germany.'"

"Every time they protest, it's going to make me louder, it's going to make me prouder to be a Jew and I'm not going to go home. They're not going to scare me," Levi added. "I know the university administration has our backs in ensuring that Jews feel safe on college campuses. I've seen a lot of anti-Israel protests and I understand that. I've seen a lot of pro-Hamas chants. I've heard a lot of them."

COLUMBIA GIVES 7-WORD UPDATE ON NEGOTIATIONS AS UNIVERSITY CROSSES DEADLINE TO CLEAR ANTI-ISRAEL PROTEST

"I'm ready for this to be over, I'm ready for Jew hatred to not have a place on our campus," he concluded. "I'm glad law enforcement and the administration is taking the correct steps to ensure that hatred has no place here at the University of Texas."

Another Jewish student, Jeremy, told Fox News Digital that he was also told by anti-Israel protesters to "go back to Germany" and described the protests as "extremely antisemitic."

"I do obviously support the right to protest no matter what," he said. But, "It's getting a little antisemitic and, of course, it's not how it should be going."

Zachary, a Jewish student, told Fox News Digital that he was counter protesting to represent Israel and stand in solidarity with the Jewish people.

ANTI-ISRAEL CAMPUS PROTESTS ARE SPREADING: CALIFORNIA, TEXAS BRACE AFTER ACTIVISTS OVERRUN COLUMBIA, YALE

"It's hurtful, you know, antisemitic rhetoric is being spread throughout," he said. "We hear the chants and things like that. It's really tough to hear, but it's important that we stand here peacefully and share information and be willing to have discussions with individuals."

"But, yeah, it's disheartening to hear that [anti-Israel chants]," he added. "We go to a school with such a great education and with such a great system and this rhetoric is still being spread around campus."

The APD and Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) were observed making arrests while protesters chanted, "Pigs go home!" The keffiyeh-wearing protesters attempted to set up a few tents before police intervened.

The DPS later told Fox News Digital the arrests were made "in order to prevent any unlawful assembly and to support UT Police in maintaining the peace by arresting anyone engaging in any sort of criminal activity, including criminal trespass."

Republican Gov. Greg Abbott denounced the protests as lawless and antisemitic on X.

"These protesters belong in jail," Abbott wrote. "Antisemitism will not be tolerated in Texas. Period. Students joining in hate-filled, antisemitic protests at any public college or university in Texas should be expelled."

UT Austin told Fox News Digital early Wednesday afternoon that it "does not tolerate" disruptive protests and that evening university President Jay Hartzell released a statement about the protest activity, calling it a "challenging day."

"We have witnessed much activity we normally do not experience on our campus, and there is understandably a lot of emotion surrounding these events," Hartzell wrote. "Today, our University held firm, enforcing our rules while protecting the Constitutional right to free speech."

ANTI-ISRAEL AGITATORS CONTINUE NATIONWIDE DISRUPTIONS WITH ESCALATIONS AT USC, HARVARD AND COLUMBIA

"Peaceful protests within our rules are acceptable," he added. "Breaking our rules and policies and disrupting others’ ability to learn are not allowed."

Hartzell also applauded law enforcement and staff for allowing peaceful protests that "happen within the rules."

"We are grateful for the countless staff members and state and university law enforcement officers, as well as support personnel who exercised extraordinary restraint in the face of a difficult situation that is playing out at universities across the country," he said.

"There is a way to exercise freedom of speech and civil discourse, and our Office of the Dean of Students has continued to offer ways to ensure protests can happen within the rules," he added. "The University of Texas will continue to take necessary steps so that all our university functions proceed without interruption."

Ukraine lawmaker, 34, fights for Kharkiv in the public square

Mariia Mentseva is a face of the war in Ukraine.

At just 34 years old and a member of Ukraine’s parliament, her formal tasks include looking into ways Ukraine can integrate into the rest of Europe’s institutions.

But, what really has gotten her attention are her posts about her hometown, Kharkiv. It has a population of 1.3 million people, just 20 miles from the northeast border with Russia.

From the beginning, Putin has wanted to take it over. In 2022, Ukrainians pushed them back.

However, in recent months, Russian attacks have grown furious, knocking out residential areas, power infrastructure, even the city’s huge TV tower.

KEY NATO ALLY SHOCKS WITH ITS 'SINGLE LARGEST' PLEDGE TO UKRAINE: 'THEY NEED OUR SUPPORT'

Moscow, in fact, made clear it has wanted to turn Kharkiv into a demilitariized zone so it would not threaten Russia.

Critics said Moscow has tried to turn Kharkiv into Aleppo, the Syrian rebel stronghold Russia flattened in its support of Assad in Damascus.

Mentseva regularly has posted shots of damage, rescue and relief efforts in Kharkiv, branding Russian efforts "genocidal actions."

She generally has exuded hope, especially for the recent package of U.S. military aid for Ukraine which would benefit her home area.

The package, Mentseva said, "will serve the purpose for sure."

Basically, for the time being at least, it will keep the city alive.

Sean Payton dives into Broncos' selection of Bo Nix: 'This was our target'

The Denver Broncos were able to snag a quarterbackRead more

As quarterbacks flew off the board early, the Denver Broncos were left with one man in Bo Nix.

Entering Thursday night, the Broncos' quarterback room consisted of Zach Wilson, Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci, and the team had little draft capital to trade up.

But Denver sure seems happy with the guy who fell in their lap.

"He's extremely intelligent, really smart. He handled a lot of the protections," Payton said Thursday night, shortly after the Broncos took the Oregon quarterback.

"When you watch him, it's pretty calming. He's very efficient, and it's not just because of the [underneath throws]. You see a ton of NFL throws in their offense."

Payton even joked that he was getting frustrated when analysts hyped Nix up.

"Once we knew this was our target … I would be like, 'Shh! Can you be quiet?'" he said.

"Look, I think that a lot of times the offense gets built around the player. So, we moved in a direction for years relative to what [former QB] Drew [Brees] did. But when he wasn't starting, it was [former QB] Teddy [Bridgewater] or [QB] Jameis [Winston]. So it wasn't like 'this guy fits our system,' because our system — let's just say if it was another quarterback.

"We want the best player. We did our best to talk about other players and directions. It's difficult sometimes. You don't want everyone to know that this is the player. But I saw what you guys saw. I would cringe and (general manager) George (Paton) would cringe. We're like, 'Ah!' Those are things you can't control."

NFL SAYS GUARDIAN CAPS PERMITTED IN GAMES AFTER CONCUSSIONS DECREASE IN TRAINING CAMP

The selection of Nix made NFL Draft history. He was the sixth QB taken when he was selected at No. 12, the fewest number of picks used to draft that many signal-callers.

It was just the second time six quarterbacks were taken in the first round, matching the legendary 1983 class, but four of those QBs were selected from pick 14 on.

Nix began his collegiate career at Auburn, where he played three seasons but never really shined with the Tigers. He transferred to Oregon in 2022, and after 13 games, he set career highs in yards (3,593), touchdowns (29) and completion percentage (71.9).

But 2023 was easily his best year. He broke out for 4,509 yards and 45 touchdowns and a 77.4% completion rate.

Guatemalan prosecutors raid offices of Save the Children charity

Guatemalan prosecutors have raided the offices ofRead more

Guatemalan prosecutors raided the offices of the charity Save the Children on Thursday, citing a complaint alleging the violation of migrant children’s rights.

Prosecutor Rafael Curruchiche said in a video to the media that the complaint filed by an unidentified foreigner had raised serious concerns because it involved allegations of abuse of children.

PROSECUTORS IN GUATEMALA ASK COURT TO LIFT PRESIDENT-ELECT'S IMMUNITY; OAS CITES 'COUP ATTEMPT'

The raid came a week after the secretary general of Guatemala's Public Ministry, Ángel Pineda, wrote a letter to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton asking for support in addressing allegations that Save the Children and other aid groups "could be participating in child trafficking operations."

Curruchiche said the raid was intended to search for any documents that might support the accusations. The prosecutor’s office did not say whether Paxton responded to the request.

Curruchiche and Pineda have been accused of trying to undermine the country’s democracy by participating in a failed effort to prevent anti-corruption President Bernardo Arévalo from taking power as well as hindering the anti-corruption fight in the Central American nation. Those efforts have led to more than 40 countries sanctioning them, including the United States and the European Union.

The raid comes amid historic levels of migration to the United States, in which Guatemala has been both a country that people migrate from and a transit route that they use on their way north.

Save the Children, which is dedicated to caring for children in crisis zones, has been working in Guatemala since 1976. It did not comment on Thursday's raid, but it issued a statement last week indicating it was aware of the allegations saying it has no evidence the allegations are true.

"We take the allegations of children's safety and misconduct very seriously and have independent investigative mechanisms in place to investigate thoroughly," the charity's statement said. "We have no evidence to validate such allegations and we continue to work hard to provide humanitarian assistance to migrant children and their families under strict safety and protection standards."

Anti-police New York City Council members change tune after 'scary' threats; blasted as 'hypocritical': report

A New York City police officer called out anti-police City Council members as "hypocritical" after they pleaded with police to rescue them after receiving "scary" threats.

The New York Post, citing NYPD sources, said that staffers were left clutching their pearls after threats were made against NYC Council members Chi Ossé and Shahana Hanif, along with Yusef Salaam and Carlina Rivera.

"It’s disgusting," one staffer texted a council colleague. "I’ve clutched my nonexistent pearls at some of the threats made against Ossé. And some have been thought to be credible as per security and NYPD."

"And for him to be such a critic, if the PD says we need to evacuate/be careful and then listen," another staffer replied.

A staffer for Hanif allegedly complained about "elevated" and "especially concerning" threats phoned into her office, praising law enforcement for being "very responsive," the Post reported.

One Brooklyn police officer told The Post that this is what they would expect from "hypocritical politicians."

"I wouldn’t expect anything less from a couple of hypocritical politicians," the officer told the outlet. "Since they don’t want police officers, why don’t they go out and hire private security?"

The four Democratic council members have been vocal critics of the NYPD and have pushed for controversial policies, such as the "How Many Stops Act," which requires officers to document basic information in low-level encounters.

Along with their anti-cop rhetoric, the council members have been vocal supporters in pro-Palestinian protests raging across the Big Apple.

JONATHAN DILLER SHOOTING: NYPD SERGEANTS' UNION TELLS ANTI-POLICE DEMOCRATS TO STAY AWAY FROM FUNERAL

In October, less than a month after Hamas' unprecedented attack on Israel, Hanif was arrested at an anti-Israel rally in Bryant Park.

"On October 20th, I was arrested alongside a multiracial coalition of New Yorkers, among them two members of my team, many Muslims and Jews, many whose first-time it was risking an arrest, demanding Senators Schumer and Gillibrand support a ceasefire in Gaza," Hanif wrote in an Instagram post following her arrest. "I am proud to echo the calls for peace made by so many of my Palestinian, Muslim and Jewish neighbors. We have seen enough bloodshed, we need our elected officals in every level of government to demand a ceasefire now."

Ossé, Salaam and Rivera have all also called for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Ossé, Hanif, Salaam and Rivera for comment.

Google to invest $2B in new Indiana data center

Google plans to invest $2 billion to build a data center in northeastern Indiana that will help power its artificial intelligence technology and cloud business, company and state officials said Friday.

The data center planned for Fort Wayne was announced in January. But Google disclosed the project's cost Friday and said it is expected to create up to 200 new jobs, including data center technicians and support services, The Journal Gazette reported.

GOOGLE FIRING OFFICE PROTESTERS SHOWS TIDE IS TURNING AS 'BOSSES ARE LOSING PATIENCE' WITH ACTIVIST EMPLOYEES

The data center in the city about 120 miles northeast of Indianapolis will help power Google's "AI innovations and growing Google Cloud business for customers across the world," Gov. Eric Holcomb’s office said in a news release.

Google said the new data center will join a network of Google-owned-and-operated data centers across the globe that "keep the internet humming" and power digital services such as Google Cloud, Gmail, Search and Maps.

"Together, Fort Wayne and Google will help power the digital future, including AI innovation across our enterprise and consumer services," said Joe Kava, Google's vice president of data centers.

Friday's announcement came one day after Amazon’s cloud computing unit Amazon Web Services said it plans to invest $11 billion to build a data center in northern Indiana near the town of New Carlisle, about 15 miles west of South Bend. That project is expected to create at least 1,000 jobs.

Trump suggests White House as venue for debate with Biden: 'Would be very comfortable'

Former President Trump suggested the White House aRead more

Former President Trump suggested the White House as the venue for a debate against President Biden, saying he "would be very comfortable."

The presumptive 2024 Republican presidential nominee, after hours in a Manhattan courtroom for the eighth day of his criminal trial, has repeatedly said he will debate Biden "anywhere, anytime, anyplace."

Biden broke his silence on debating his 2024 opponent on Friday during an interview with radio host Howard Stern. Biden said he would be "happy" to debate Trump.

TRUMP CAMPAIGN DEMANDS BIDEN DEBATE HIM 'MUCH EARLIER' AND MORE OFTEN

"I am, somewhere, I don’t know when," Biden said, after Stern said he didn’t know whether Biden would participate in a debate. "I’m happy to debate him."

Trump, shortly after Biden's interview, which he did during a visit to New York City Friday, posted to his Truth Social account inviting Biden to debate him at the courthouse in Lower Manhattan.

"In the alternative, he’s in New York City today, although probably doesn’t know it, and so am I, stuck in one of the many Court cases that he instigated as ELECTION INTERFERENCE AGAINST A POLITICAL OPPONENT - A CONTINUING WITCH HUNT!" Trump posted to Truth Social. "It’s the only way he thinks he can win. In fact, let’s do the Debate at the Courthouse tonight - on National Television, I'll wait around!"

Trump, after court ended Friday, came out and reflected on the day of testimony.

"We sit here day, after day, after day, which is their plan," Trump said of the Democrats, who he said hope to win the election. "But I doubt it because the poll numbers are very good for us."

Trump told reporters he had invited Biden to debate.

TRUMP CALLS FOR DEBATES WITH BIDEN 'ANYTIME, ANYWHERE, ANYPLACE'

"He can do it anytime he wants, including tonight. He can do it tonight," Trump said. "I invited him to the courthouse that he has us tied up in. This is a well coordinated attack on a political opponent."

Trump added: "But I'm here, I'm ready, willing and able."

Trump said "if he wants, I'll do it on Monday night, Tuesday night and Wednesday night."

Trump said Wednesday night he will campaign in Michigan, saying it is a state that Biden "has destroyed because of the auto industry" and said auto jobs are "all going over to China with his ridiculous electric vehicle mandate."

"But we're willing to do it Monday night, Tuesday night, Wednesday night, Thursday night, Friday night on national television," Trump said. "We're ready. Just tell me where."

"We'll do it at the White House," Trump said. "That would be very comfortable, actually. You tell me where. We're ready."

Trump told reporters that Biden was "obviously not showing up now" to the courthouse.

BIDEN SAYS DEBATING TRUMP 'DEPENDS ON HIS BEHAVIOR'

"We've heard nothing, but he said today he'd love to debate," Trump said. "But he won't debate. I don't think he'll debate. Maybe he will. Maybe he will. I'm not sure he has a choice."

He added: "We're ready, willing and able. We don't see him and I don't think he'll be here. Maybe next week he'll do it."

"I doubt it," Trump said. "But maybe next week."

Earlier this month, the Trump campaign called for additional 2024 presidential debates and for them to take place "much earlier" than initially proposed by the debate commission.

Trump, in an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital shortly after, said he is "totally committed" to debating President Biden "anytime, anywhere, anyplace."

As for Biden, before today, he had not yet committed to debating his opponent.

When asked last month if he would debate the former president, Biden said it was dependent on Trump’s "behavior."

"Depends on his behavior," Biden said.

Earlier this year, Biden addressed previous calls for earlier debates with Trump.

"If I were him, I would want to debate me, too," Biden told reporters in Nevada when asked about Trump wanting to debate him earlier in the election cycle.

"He’s got nothing else to do," Biden said.

From salmon to shark, here are the best and worst fish for your health, according to experts

On April 26, 2024

What is the best fish to eat for your health? ExpeRead more

Fish is often hailed as a nutritional heavy hitter that provides a slew of health benefits.

Rich in essential nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids, high-quality protein and a variety of vitamins and minerals, seafood can make for a solid choice in an overall balanced diet.

Not every type of fish, however, is a slam dunk from a nutritional perspective.

SPINACH VS. KALE: WHICH IS 'BETTER' FOR YOU? NUTRITIONISTS SETTLE THE GREAT DEBATE

Michelle Routhenstein, a New York-based cardiology dietitian at EntirelyNourished.com, said, "Not all fish are created equal when it comes to their nutrition profile, so choosing specific ones may be more beneficial for your health."

Read on for which fish deserve a regular spot on your plate, and which to avoid.

There are good reasons this fish gets a lot of lovin’ from health professionals.

"Salmon is among the best choices for healthy fish. It's high in omega-3s — fats that help cardiovascular and brain health — and also high in protein," said Lauri Wright, a registered dietitian nutritionist and professor at the University of South Florida College of Public Health.

APPLES VS. ORANGES: WHICH OF THESE FRUITS IS 'BETTER' FOR YOU?

Wright said research shows that omega-3 consumption decreases overall mortality from heart disease.

"Further, omega-3 provides a modest reduction in high blood pressure and significant reduction in triglycerides," said Wright.

"In addition to cardiovascular benefits, omega-3s also have anti-inflammatory properties, making them beneficial for those suffering from arthritis," she said.

For all these reasons and more, it’s probably a good idea to add omega-3 rich foods to your diet, whether through seafood sources or via walnuts, flaxseeds and Brussels sprouts.

Talk with your own health care professional, of course, about any planned changes to your diet.

Slurp, slurp on these good-for-you bivalves, say nutritionists.

WHITE BREAD VS. WHOLE WHEAT BREAD: IS ONE 'BETTER' FOR YOU?

"Oysters, like salmon and sardines, are high in omega-3s and also high in iron. They're also good for the environment. One warning, though: Never consume raw seafood," said Wright.

As Routhenstein noted, sardines are rich in EPA and DHA, omega 3 fatty acids, that provide anti-inflammatory, heart health benefits.

"Sardines also have a unique nutritional profile because they are rich in calcium, which helps with bone health and heartbeat regularity," she said.

In addition to praising sardines for being packed with omega-3s, Wright said sardines are high in vitamin D and are also inexpensive.

LIVER, INSECTS, SARDINES — OH MY!: 8 'GROSS' FOODS THAT NUTRITIONISTS SAY YOU SHOULD EATc

If you want to add more sardines to your diet, Wright has a few easy ideas.

Top a cracker with a sardine and mustard. Sauté sardines in oil, garlic, onions with a bit of lemon juice, and salt and pepper to get rid of the strong fishy flavor and serve with rice. Substitute sardines for lox on top of a bagel.

Halibut is rich in selenium, per Routhenstein, which is a heart-healthy antioxidant that reduces inflammation and oxidative stress.

"Halibut is also a good source of vitamin B6, which is beneficial for immune, nerve and liver health," she said.

Pass the red snapper, please.

"Red snapper is a rich source of potassium, which helps improve blood pressure and arterial health," said Routhenstein, noting this fish is also a good source of protein and B vitamins.

Sole has a high risk for contaminants, and it is low in many heart-healthy nutrients like omega-3s, potassium, and magnesium, cautioned Routhenstein.

"It is also high in sodium relative to potassium, which may increase blood pressure levels," she said.

WHAT YOU SHOULD ORDER AT MCDONALD'S, ACCORDING TO NUTRITIONISTS

Another fish you might want to steer clear of is farmed tilapia, which "contains high levels of contaminants, antibiotics and omega-6 fatty acids that can be pro-inflammatory and negatively contribute to your health goals," said Routhenstein.

Also known as the red roughy, this fish is best to avoid.

Why?

BUTTER VS. MARGARINE: IS ONE 'BETTER' FOR YOU?

"Orange roughy has a long lifespan, meaning it often picks up many contaminants throughout its life, including high levels of mercury," said Wright.

It’s worth flagging that this creature may not be good for your health, or the environment, experts say.

"Shark is very high in mercury, which is a neurotoxin. It should be avoided completely by pregnant women and children. Further, the population of sharks is also declining," said Wright.

Ah, tuna.

This fish can be controversial — so Routhenstein set the record straight.

"Tuna is a rich source of vitamins B6 and B12, which helps support immune, hormonal and nerve health," she said.

"However, tuna is not a great source of anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids, and it contains high levels of mercury — so if you enjoy it, you should try to limit it to 1-2x a week," she continued.

Due to its high mercury content, it may need to be consumed zero times — or only once a week — by certain populations, such as young children and women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Wright noted that the basic guideline is to choose light tuna and limit it to less than two servings a week.

"A 130-pound woman can eat almost two six-ounce cans of light tuna a week and stay within the EPA-recommended safe zone for mercury," she said.

"A four- or five-year-old child should eat only about four ounces of light tuna per week," Wright added, noting that the guidelines differ for albacore tuna.

"Children should avoid that type of tuna altogether, and women of childbearing age should consume no more than four ounces per week," she said.

Ex-MLB star running for Senate goes to bat for plan to cut federal cash for schools allowing unrest

On April 26, 2024

Ex-MLB star and GOP Senate candidate Steve GarveyRead more

Former MLB star and U.S. Senate candidate Steve Garvey said if he's elected to Congress he'd push for Ivy League colleges and universities to appear before Congress to testify about their failure to protect their Jewish students.

"At this time, next year, as a sitting U.S. senator, I would call to have committees that will talk to these presidents and leadership and ask why they haven't protected their students," the California Republican told Fox News Digital in an interview. "And if they can't protect them, let's talk about affecting them with federal funds and start to take back the federal funds.

"If you're not going to protect these Americans that are on your campus, then you're going to have to make a decision on what's important to you."

Garvey said the demonstrators on college campuses should be arrested and prosecuted "to the full extent of the law," adding the protests are "terrorism under the guise of free speech."

MLB GREAT STEVE GARVEY SWINGS FOR THE SENATE, ANNOUNCES CAMPAIGN TO HELP TURN AROUND CALIFORNIA

On Thursday, the University of South California called off its graduation ceremony for 2024 graduates as anti-Israel agitators descended upon campus, where 93 arrests were made. The college campus is among several universities in the U.S. experiencing unrest, as demonstrators chant "death to America," "We are Hamas" and advocate for divestment from Israel.

Earlier this month, USC faced intense backlash for barring its valedictorian, Muslim biomedical engineering student Asna Tabassum, from speaking at the commencement ceremony over safety concerns after her critics accused her of promoting anti-Israel rhetoric on social media.

"What's happening on campuses is against the law," Garvey said. "There's an attack physically, mentally and spiritually on these Jewish students. We need to stand up now more than ever."

Garvey also said university presidents should "take back their campuses" and "form a protective environment for these students that are being attacked."

MLB GREAT STEVE GARVEY OFFERS SUPPORT TO ISRAELIS AFTER HAMAS ATTACKS: 'OUR HEART BREAKS FOR YOU'

Garvey, who played for the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres during his professional baseball career, is facing off against Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff to fill the late Dianne Feinstein's Senate seat. The two advanced to the November general election in this year's primary.

His comments come as the Israel-Hamas war has dragged on for more than six nonths. Nearly 1,300 Israelis were killed Oct. 7, and thousands of civilian deaths have been recorded in the region since the terrorist attack.

EX-MLB STAR IN STATISTICAL TIE WITH SCHIFF IN CALIFORNIA SENATE RACE, SAYS VOTERS ARE 'MAD' AT DEMOCRATS

Yale, MIT, UC Berkeley, the University of Southern California, Princeton, Harvard, Stanford, Northwestern University, Vanderbilt University, the University of Michigan, the University of North Carolina and the University of Virginia are some of the campuses where major demonstrations broke out this week.
