Chicago woman sentenced to 50 years without parole after killing pregnant teen and cutting baby from womb

Clarisa Figueroa was sentenced to 50 years in prisRead more

A Chicago woman was sentenced to 50 years in prison for the 2019 murder of a 9-month pregnant woman, whose baby was cut out of her womb.

Clarisa Figueroa changed her plea to guilty of first degree murder on Tuesday.

The 50-year sentence came 5 years after she allegedly murdered 19-year-old Marlen Ochoa-Lopez on April 23, 2019, and cut the woman's baby from her womb.

Cook County Judge Peggy Chiampas asked if Figueroa understood she would have to serve 100% of that time and would not get an early release.

CHICAGO WOMAN ACCUSED OF HELPING MOTHER KILL PREGNANT TEEN AND CUTTING THE BABY OUT GIVES BIRTH

"Yes," Figueroa replied.

Figueroa's guilty plea came after her daughter, Desiree Figueroa, admitted to assisting her mother in the elaborate murder plot.

Desiree agreed to testify against her mother and was charged with 30 years in prison.

Authorities said that the plot began after Figueroa's adult son died of natural causes and the woman began her desperate search for a newborn.

Authorities said that she posted an ultrasound and photos of a room decorated for a baby on her Facebook page.

In March 2019, she and Ochoa-Lopez connected on a Facebook page for pregnant women. Figueroa allegedly lied to Ochoa-Lopez about being pregnant.

The mother-daughter duo allegedly lured the 19-year-old victim into their home in Chicago with the promise of free baby clothes after posting an advertisement on Facebook.

THREE ARRESTED IN MURDER OF CHICAGO WOMAN, 19, WHO WAS 9 MONTHS PREGNANT, COPS SAY

"She was giving clothes away, supposedly under the pretense that her daughters had been given clothes, and they had all these extra boy clothes," Cicilia Garcia, a spokeswoman for the family, said.

Police previously said that Clarisa Figueroa used a coaxial cable to strangle Ochoa-Lopez and then cut the baby from her womb.

Desiree Figueroa admitted to handing her mother a kitchen knife that was used to cut the baby from the womb.

FLASHBACK: BODY OF WOMAN, 19, WHO WAS 9 MONTHS PREGNANT IS FOUND IN CHICAGO, AUTHORITIES SAY

Detectives investigating Ochoa-Lopez’s disappearance discovered that she had gone to the Figueroas’ home.

After finding Ochoa-Lopez's car near Figueroa's home, they found her body in a garbage can outside the home.

Later, Figueroa called 911, lying that she had given birth and her newborn was not breathing.

When the baby boy was taken by paramedics to a hospital, nurses became suspicious and the baby boy underwent DNA testing.

The testing determined the baby to be Ochoa-Lopez and her husband's child. The baby, Yovanny Jadiel Lopez, died months later, in June 2019.

Clarisa Figueroa tricked her boyfriend, Piotr Bobak, into believing he was the father, according to police and prosecutors.

Bobak cleaned up the crime scene and was sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to obstruction of justice. He was released on parole last year.

A painting of Winston Churchill by an artist whose work he hated is up for auction

LONDON (AP) — A portrait of Winston Churchill by an artist whose work the British leader loathed went on display Tuesday at Churchill’s birthplace ahead of an auction in June.

The painting by modernist artist Graham Sutherland was made in preparation for a larger portrait that Churchill hated and which was later destroyed — an episode recounted in the TV series "The Crown."

ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY, APRIL 9, 1963, SIR WINSTON CHURCHILL DECLARED HONORARY US CITIZEN: 'STEADFAST FRIEND'

The surviving oil-on-canvas study shows Churchill’s head in profile against a dark background. It is expected to sell for between 500,000 pounds and 800,000 pounds ($622,000 and $995,000) at Sotheby’s in London on June 6.

Sutherland was commissioned by the Houses of Parliament to paint Churchill to mark his 80th birthday in 1954. The full-length portrait was unveiled in Parliament that year, with Churchill calling it, with a smirk, "a remarkable example of modern art."

Churchill is said to have complained that the painting "makes me look half-witted, which I ain’t." It was delivered to his home and never seen again. The Churchill family disclosed years later that it had been destroyed.

Its fate was recreated with poetic license in an episode of "The Crown" in which Churchill’s wife, Clementine, watches the painting go up in flames.

Andre Zlattinger, Sotheby’s head of modern British and Irish art, said that in the surviving study, "Churchill is caught in a moment of absent-minded thoughtfulness, and together with the backstory of its creation, it gives the impression of a man truly concerned with his image."

Sotheby’s put the picture on public display inside the room where Churchill was born 150 years ago at Blenheim Palace, a country mansion 60 miles (100 kilometers) northwest of London. Visitors can see it there until Sunday. It will go on show at Sotheby’s offices in New York May 3-16 and London May 25-June 5.

Katie Couric torched for 'cringeworthy' condescension toward Trump supporters reminiscent of Hillary

Former NBC "Today" show host Katie Couric continued to receive backlash Tuesday after a diatribe against the purported ignorance of supporters of former President Trump that one critic compared to Hillary Clinton's infamous 2016 "deplorables" remarks.

Couric told liberal comic Bill Maher on his "Club Random" podcast that "socioeconomic disparities" and "class resentment" along with "anti-intellectualism and -elitism" is driving the populist, anti-establishment bent of Trump's supporters.

Couric suggested the United States' economic transition from industrial to technological has caused jealousy as well as a "corroding, bitter, almost bile feeling."

On "Outnumbered," co-host Harris Faulkner compared Couric's comments to those of Clinton, who told a New York City crowd while running against Trump in 2016 that half of such supporters of the Republican nominee can be categorized in a "basket of deplorables."

FROM KATIE COURIC TO ‘60 MINUTES': MEDIA'S MOST DECEPTIVE EDITS, MISLEADING FOOTAGE

Clinton's remark received criticism and has been credited as one of the turning points in the campaign that led to Trump's upset victory.

"Not only are they out-of-touch, and look, Katie Couric used to be a great journalist …  I'm not really sure what lane she's in now, but it sounded like what she wanted to say was ‘basket of deplorables,’" Faulkner said.

Fox News contributor Dr. Nicole Saphier said the sight of Maher and Couric sitting in armchairs discussing such a topic was "rather cringeworthy" and that in a way, even with her own doctorate degree and place on the socioeconomic spectrum described by Couric, she, too, was offended by the ex-"Today" anchor.

"I don't even know what she's talking about at this point, and so I can't imagine what other people were feeling as well. And at the end of the day, yes, those who have higher socioeconomic stature, you know, they're not feeling the effects of the White House right now and the economics that are going on, the crime in their streets, in their neighborhoods and the cost of things at the grocery store," she said.

KATIE COURIC CLAIMS BRYANT GUMBEL GAVE HER ‘ENDLESS S---’ FOR GOING ON MATERNITY LEAVE

"She's talking down on all these people who are actually suffering, and she just seems so out-of-touch with the American people, which kind of is what's been going on with the White House, the entire administration."

Saphier quipped that Couric might want to seek White House employment.

"Outnumbered's" "One Lucky Guy" on Tuesday, talk show host Ben Ferguson, echoed much of his co-panelists' sentiments, saying it reminded him of media figures assessing the need for "deprogramming" of Trump voters.

"It was like a coordinated effort by the left to say, ‘Hey, we need to deprogram all these crazies.’ I love this type of rhetoric from them because it goes back to the simple issue, ‘It's the economy, stupid,'" Ferguson said, quoting former Bill Clinton strategist James Carville's winning message from the 1992 presidential sweeps.

"If people are suffering and this is your response to that, that anyone that disagrees with you is somehow ignorant or stupid or dumb, then I think people are going to show up and vote to say, 'No, I'm actually concerned about providing for my family.'"

Ferguson also noted the average American worker doesn't have "Katie Couric money," which according to recent reports is upwards of $110 million.

Parts of central US hit by severe storms, while tornadoes strike in Kansas and Iowa

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Strong storms caused damage in parts of the middle U.S. Tuesday and spawned tornadoes in Kansas and Iowa, including one that left two people hurt.

An EF-1 tornado touched down shortly after 6 a.m. near the northeastern Kansas town of Richland, the National Weather Service said. The twister reached speeds of up to 100 mph (161 kph) and was on the ground for about 20 minutes, the service said.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT THE STORM SYSTEM BARRELING ACROSS MIDDLE AMERICA THIS WEEK

Two people were injured when their RV flipped over during the tornado. Details about the injuries were not immediately available. Buildings and trees also were damaged in the neighboring town of Overbrook.

In central Iowa, a barn was demolished and other buildings were damaged after a tornado touched down in a rural area of Dallas County. The weather service also reported ping pong ball-sized hail in Bloomfield, just north of the Missouri line. There were no immediate reports of injuries.

The weather service said the central U.S. was under threat of severe weather through Tuesday. Thunderstorms were expected in parts of Kansas, Missouri, Iowa and northwestern Illinois, potentially with large hail and damaging winds. Some isolated storms were also possible in the mid-South, the service said.

In Missouri, Chicago-bound American Eagle Flight 3661 returned to Kansas City International Airport just before 6 a.m., soon after it took off, due to a possible lightning strike, American Airlines spokesperson Gianna Urgo said in an email. Maintenance workers were inspecting the aircraft to see if it was damaged. Passengers were later put on other flights, Urgo said.

A camper was blown over and the roof was ripped off a building when a strong storm hit the area around Smithville Lake in western Missouri, the Clay County Sheriff's Department said. Downed trees and power lines were reported in several communities near Kansas City.

Draft report says Missouri's House speaker stymied ethics investigation into his spending

An ethics panel in Missouri is at an impasse overRead more

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — A Missouri ethics panel is at an impasse over reported misconduct by the powerful state House speaker, who allegedly used his office to stymie an investigation into his actions.

A draft of the Ethics Committee report recommended that the House formally denounce actions taken by Republican Speaker Dean Plocher that "substantially impair public confidence in the General Assembly."

MISSOURI DEATH ROW INMATE WHO KILLED COUSIN AND HER HUSBAND IN 2006 IS EXECUTED

Committee members voted 6-2 against the report but made it publicly available Monday. Another Ethics Committee hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.

Plocher did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Associated Press on Tuesday.

At issue are complaints that Plocher last year tried to use his influence as speaker to get the House to contract with a company for a new constituent services program called Fireside.

Fireside’s parent company, FiscalNote, had hired Bardgett and Associates lobbyists in an attempt to win a $776,000 two-year contract with the House, independent investigator Beth Boggs wrote in a March 1 report. Plocher worked as a lawyer at the Blitz, Bardgett and Deutsch law firm.

Plocher also faces allegations that he improperly requested taxpayer dollars to pay for a business-class ticket on a flight to Hawaii and expenses for several other work trips dating back to 2018.

Plocher admitted he accepted reimbursements for the travel expenses both from the state and from his political campaign, which is against Missouri law. He has since repaid the state about $4,000.

The Ethics Committee struggled to investigate claims about Plocher's dealings with Fireside.

Boggs in a March 1 letter to the committee said she hit a roadblock because witnesses, including Plocher, refused to speak to her.

"The level of fear expressed by a number of the potential witnesses is a daunting factor in completing this investigation," Boggs wrote.

When the Ethics Committee sought approval from the speaker, Plocher, to force witnesses to testify through subpoenas, he refused, according to the report.

The draft report alleges that Plocher, as the speaker, has blocked payment of the independent investigator hired by the House to investigate him. In total, the investigation cost about $17,000 to complete.

Contractors have not been paid, according to the draft report, because the speaker's approval is necessary.

Missouri lawmakers have about a month left of the 2024 legislative session.

Rory McIlroy vows commitment to PGA Tour amid LIV Golf speculation: 'My future is here'

PGA Tour star Rory McIlroy reaffirmed his commitmeRead more

The PGA Tour’s biggest star is staying put.

Rory McIlroy shot down recent rumors the 24-time PGA Tour winner was offered a massive deal to join LIV Golf on the heels of another disappointing finish at Augusta National Golf Club.

"I’ve never been offered a number from LIV, and I’ve never contemplated going to LIV," McIlroy told Golf Channel's Todd Lewis ahead of the 2024 RBC Heritage Tuesday.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

"I think I’ve made it clear over the past two years that I don’t think that it's something for me. Doesn’t mean that I judge people that have went and played over there," he added.

"I think one of the things I've realized over the past two years is that people can make their own decisions for whatever they think is best for themselves, and who are we to judge them for that? But, personally for me, my future is here on the PGA Tour, and it's never been any different."

British media outlets reported LIV Golf was rumored to have offered McIlroy around $850 million with a 2% equity in the organization and that a potential deal was "close."

US OPEN CHAMP WYNDHAM CLARK SHADES BRYSON DECHAMBEAU, LIV GOLF AFTER SLOW MASTERS START

McIlroy, initially one of LIV Golf’s biggest critics, said he didn’t know where the rumors originated.

"It’s never even been a conversation for us. It’s just one of those things that’s unfortunate that we have to deal with, and this is the state that our game is in."

McIlroy’s vow to continue playing on the PGA Tour follows another disappointing finish at the Masters. He finished tied for 22nd, pushing his bid to complete a career Grand Slam on hold for yet another year.

"I need to take a little bit of time and reflect on this week and what I did well, what I didn't do so well, and sort of try to make a plan for the next few months, especially from here going through obviously the end of July," he said after the final round Sunday.

"As you say, major season, they're going to come thick and fast here. So, hopefully, get myself in a bit better form for those last three."

Participant, studio behind 'Food, Inc.' and 'An Inconvenient Truth,' shuts down

Participant, the film and television studio behindRead more

Participant, the activist film and television studio that has financed Oscar winners like "Spotlight" and socially conscious documentaries like "Food, Inc," and "Waiting For Superman" is closing its doors after 20 years.

Billionaire Jeff Skoll told his staff of 100 in a memo shared with The Associated Press Tuesday that they were winding down company operations.

"This is not a step I am taking lightly," Skoll wrote in the memo. "But after 20 years of groundbreaking content and world-changing impact campaigns, it is the right time for me to evaluate my next chapter and approach to tackling the pressing issues of our time."

LAID-OFF EMPLOYEES SHUT DOWN LIBERAL OUTLET’S DIGITAL TOWN HALL MEETING BY FLOODING IT WITH THUMBS DOWN EMOJIS

Since Skoll founded the company in 2004, Participant has released 135 films, 50 of which were documentaries and many of which were tied to awareness-raising impact campaigns. Their films have won 21 Academy Awards including best picture for "Spotlight" and "Green Book," best documentary for "An Inconvenient Truth" and "American Factory" and best international feature for "Roma."

Participant was behind films like "Contagion," "Good Night, and Good Luck," "Lincoln" and "Judas and the Black Messiah," the limited series "When They See Us" and also a sequel to their documentary "Food Inc," which they rolled out this month. Their films have made over $3.3 billion at the global box office. But the company had a "double bottom line" in which impact was measured in addition to profit.

Skoll stepped back from day-to-day operations of the company years ago. Veteran film executive David Linde has been CEO of Participant since 2015, during which they had their "Green Book" and "Roma" successes.

"I founded Participant with the mission of creating world-class content that inspires positive social change, prioritizing impact alongside commercial sustainability," Skoll wrote. "Since then, the entertainment industry has seen revolutionary changes in how content is created, distributed and consumed."

Skoll added that their legacy "will live on through our people, our stories and all who are inspired by them."

Boat containing decomposing bodies of 9 African migrants washes up in Brazil

Brazilian police investigating the grim discovery of a boat full of corpses say the dead were likely African migrants from Mali and Mauritania.

Fishermen off Brazil's northern coastal state of Pará found the boat adrift Saturday in the Atlantic Ocean. Brazil's Federal police said in a statement late Monday it had recovered nine dead in total.

"Documents and objects found near the bodies indicate that the victims were migrants from the African continent, from the region of Mauritania and Mali," the statement read. Police added that other nationalities could be among the deceased.

THRONGS OF AFRICAN MIGRANTS GATHER OUTSIDE NYC'S CITY HALL

The roughly 39-foot-long white and blue canoe-shaped boat found in Brazil shares the same characteristics of Mauritanian fishing pirogues frequently used by West African migrants and refugees fleeing to Spain’s Canary Islands, suggesting Brazil was probably not their destination.

The Atlantic route from West Africa to the European Union territory is one of the most dangerous in the world. Boats that miss their destination can be swept away by Atlantic trade winds and currents from east to west, drifting for months. Migrants aboard often die of dehydration and malnutrition. Others have also been known to jump into the ocean out of desperation.

An Associated Press investigation published last year revealed that in 2021, at least seven boats from northwest Africa had been found in the Caribbean and Brazil, all carrying dead bodies.

A 500% spike in migration from the northwest coast of Africa to Spain this year has alarmed European authorities. Despite a 210 million euro deal signed in February between the European Union and Mauritania, the majority of departures have taken place from the West African nation.

While more than 13,000 migrants have reached the Canaries so far in 2024, according to Spain's interior ministry, hundreds others have been reported missing. In Mauritania, families have even set up a "national commission" charged with looking for the disappeared migrants. They have been following news of the boat found in Brazil anxiously, according to families who contacted AP.

Brazilian federal police say they are still working to identify the bodies and the cause of death, a difficult task given the advanced state of decomposition they were found in.

U.S. Air Force uncovers ancient campsite on New Mexico base: 'Marks a pivotal moment'

United States Air Force (USAF) service members annRead more

United States Air Force (USAF) service members recently discovered an ancient campsite that dates back over 8,000 years, according to officials.

The millennia-old ruins, which were found on Holloman Air Force Base, are believed to have been inhabited by the earliest settlers of New Mexico. USAF officials say that the 8,200-year-old campsite was discovered buried around two meters deep, according to a Mar. 21 press release.

The USAF explained that 49th Civil Engineer Squadron environmental flight members and geomorphologists – people who study how the Earth's surface evolves – found the site back in March. The location has been named Gomolak Overlook and was found near the borders of the military base.

In a statement, 49th CES cultural resource manager Matthew Cuba said that sands from the nearby White Sands National Park buried the site over the past thousands of years.

STRANGE ROCK UNCOVERED DURING SEA SEARCH TURNS OUT TO BE ANCIENT BATTLE GEAR

"The formation of the white sand dunes inadvertently buried the site, with windblown silt protecting the delicate archaeological remains," Cuba explained.

"This site marks a pivotal moment in shedding light on the area's history and its early inhabitants."

The campsite contained the remains of a hearth, which even included charcoal stains – a testament to how much early settlers depended on fire.

"Found on the site were approximately 70 items, ranging from flake stones to a rare example of an early ground stone, providing valuable clues about past human activities," said Cuba.

ANCIENT SHIPWRECKS, ARTIFACTS DATING AS EARLY AS 3000 BC UNCOVERED BY UNDERWATER RESEARCHERS

"We also uncovered a series of hearths, or community campsites, with remnants of mesquite charcoal which is a tremendous find in and of itself."

The artifacts found by searchers will be studied and preserved, officials say.

"Adhering to the National Historic Preservation Act, we will ensure that all necessary steps are taken to preserve the site's integrity while facilitating the progress of the test track project," 49th CES environmental chief Scott Dorton was quoted as saying.

"The Department of Defense's stewardship of vast tracts of land, including areas between White Sands National Park and Holloman, inadvertently protects numerous documented and undocumented archaeological resources," he added. "As a result, some of the best-preserved archaeological records in the Tularosa Basin reside on DoD land."

The USAF says that the discovery "offers insights into early human adaptation and environmental changes."

"As stewards of these resources, we must ensure their preservation and documentation for future generations and ensure that cultural resources are protected while also allowing for progress and development," Cuba said.

Fox News Digital reached out to USAF for a statement, but did not immediately hear back.

Former Arkansas deputy pleads guilty to violating suspect's civil rights in violent arrest

Former Crawford County Sheriff's Deputy ZackaRead more

A former Arkansas law enforcement officer has pleaded guilty to violating the civil rights of a man he kicked and hit during a violent arrest in 2022 that was caught on video and shared widely.

Former Crawford County Sheriff's Deputy Zackary King changed his plea during a hearing in federal court on Monday. King agreed to plead guilty to one count of deprivation of rights under color of law during the Aug. 21, 2022, arrest of Randal Worcester outside a convenience store.

King and another former deputy, Levi White, were charged by federal prosecutors last year for the arrest. A bystander used a cellphone to record the arrest in the small town of Mulberry, about 140 miles northwest of Little Rock, near the border with Oklahoma.

1 DEAD, 9 INJURED IN ARKANSAS BLOCK PARTY SHOOTING

Federal prosecutors agreed to drop a felony count of deprivation of rights against King. He faces up to a year in prison and a fine of up to $100,000, according to his plea agreement. He also agreed to cooperate with federal authorities.

"We just felt like it was a good way for Mr. King to move on with his life and not be saddled with the possibility of a felony," Bill James, King's attorney, said Tuesday.

The trial for King and White had been set to begin next month. White has pleaded not guilty. An attorney for White did not immediately respond to a message Tuesday morning.

A third officer caught in the video, Mulberry Police Officer Thell Riddle, was not charged in the federal case. King and White were fired by the Crawford County sheriff. The video depicted King and White striking Worcester as Riddle held him down.

Police have said Worcester was being questioned for threatening a clerk at a convenience store in the nearby small town of Alma when he tackled one of the deputies and punched him in the head before the arrest. Worcester is set to go to trial in July on charges related to the arrest, including resisting arrest and second-degree battery.

Worcester filed a lawsuit against the three officers, the city of Mulberry and Crawford County over the arrest. But that case has been put on hold while the criminal cases related to the arrest are ongoing.

River suddenly turns bright green, residents demand tests amid toxic pollution: report

A waterway in a small Russian city has turned brigRead more

Residents of a small Russian city were startled after a small river suddenly turned bright green recently, according to local reports.

Locals are calling for tests amid toxic pollution fears in the waterway in Penza, located 400 miles southeast of Moscow.

"A poisonous green creek on Gagarin Street worries residents of Penza," the Mash media outlet reported. "The local administration is already studying the liquid."

IS THIS TECHNOLOGY THE ANSWER TO CLEANING UP OUR OCEAN’S PLASTIC PROBLEM?

Footage shows bright-green water flowing amid a snow-covered landscape.

The river was hit by a sewage overflow in 2020, but the water never turned green, the news outlet said.

The All-Russia People's Front, a political coalition started in 2011 by then-Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, has been looking for violators of environmental regulations, the report said.

The likely cause was an "accident," Mash reported. The Moskovsky Komsomolets media outlet reported that the cause of the sudden coloration was due to "industrial dumping."

Penza is home to 17 manufacturing plants, including some that make items for the nuclear power industry, radio and communications equipment, and automated management systems.

"The reason for such metamorphoses is not some amazing spring phenomenon in which water takes on different colors, but industrial waste dumped into the city’s reservoirs," a local report said.

No further details on the green waste were disclosed.

Jewish organization leader says Israel will be protected by God, despite attacks by Iran or its proxies

Aish CEO Rabbi Steven Burg told Fox News Digital IRead more

Days after hundreds of missiles and drones were launched at Israel, members of the Jewish community are speaking out, saying Iranian leaders are cowards who hide behind proxies, adding that "almighty God" will protect those who live in the Holy Land.

Iran’s brazen and unprecedented attack on Israel late Saturday involved drones, ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles launched from Iran, Iraq, Syria and Yemen.

Only seven ballistic missiles reached Israeli territory, causing minor damage to an air base. Israeli and U.S. forces shot down the rest with help from British, French and Jordanian forces.

Aish CEO Rabbi Steven Burg spoke with Fox News Digital about Iran’s attack.

IRAN'S ATTACK ON ISRAEL SHINES SPOTLIGHT ON TEHRAN'S ADVANCING NUCLEAR WEAPONS PROGRAM

"Iran attacked. Iran has been attacking the Western world and Israel for so long, from so many places," the former New York native said. "They just use proxies, because frankly, they’re cowards. And I think for them to kind of come out from behind the rock and throw all those missiles at Israel, I think people were a little surprised…but I think it’s a paper tiger. I think what turned out is they don’t quite have the ability that everyone thought they had."

Aish HaTorah, according to the organization’s website, was started in Jerusalem in 1974, with a goal to provide outreach to and revitalize the Jewish people by giving them an atmosphere of mutual respect.

Burg spoke from Israel's capital city, Jerusalem, on Monday. As the only democracy in the region, he said, there are a "tremendous" number of shared values between Israel and the United States.

On the flip side, the U.S. and other allies told Israel not to retaliate, which Burg said is tough, because if any of those countries were to get attacked, he did not believe they would react the same way.

ISRAEL PUSHES FOR NEW SANCTIONS ON IRAN, URGES COUNTRIES TO DECLARE REVOLUTIONARY GUARD A TERROR GROUP

"To say that, ‘OK, you know, you took a shot in the chin. Just be thankful that you didn’t hit the canvas,’ I think Israel probably will have to hit back at some point, and then I think there’s a real question of who our real allies are going to be in the long term," Burg said. "There's no doubt that Israel must respond, because that's the way it works in the Middle East. You know, when they hit you, and you don't hit back, they just think they can keep bullying you and keep doing this. So there have to be consequences."

In order to hit back, he explained, Israel will likely be smart about it and not be pushed into anything.

"They’re going to do it at their own time," he said.

PUTIN SHARED SURPRISING ADVICE WITH IRANIAN COUNTERPART FOLLOWING UNPRECEDENTED ATTACK ON ISRAEL

Jews have been bullied and attacked throughout history. Aside from Iran's attack over the weekend, Israel was attacked by Hamas-led terrorists on Oct. 7, 2023, that resulted in the deaths of nearly 1,200 Israelis and foreigners, while also sparking an anti-Israel movement at U.S. universities, targeting Jewish students.

Burg said he thinks one of the things that disappointed Israel and the Jewish community as a whole is what is going on across campuses in the U.S.

As a New Yorker, Burg said he remembers when al Qaeda terrorists flew planes into the World Trade Center buildings on 9/11, an attack led by Osama bin Laden that killed thousands of Americans.

Now, more than 20 years later, Burg said he sees a concerning trend of videos on TikTok glorifying bin Laden.

"We’re watching these protests, we’re watching the campuses, saying it’s really time for the average American who loves freedom, who loves his country, to stand up, because when they talk about, you know, death to Israel, they’re really saying death to America, death to, really, western values," Burg said, adding it was time to start saying America and Israel are great countries, and that democracy is a great way to live. "We have to stand for freedom, and I think that’s so important, for all of us to be together and to really make sure that society as a whole, continues in a free and thriving way."

ANTI-ISRAEL AGITATORS SHUT DOWN TRAFFIC, DISRUPT CITIES ALL ACROSS US IN DEMAND FOR GAZA CEASEFIRE

The people in Israel could easily live in fear, especially after the Oct. 7 attacks became the largest slaughter of Jews since the Holocaust.

Burg said the attack "was big," adding that over a thousand civilians were killed while many others were kidnapped.

The situation created a lot of nervousness among its citizens, as well as a lot of tension.

But what the attack also did was bring the country together, he said, creating a sense of need to get the people who were kidnapped back to Israel.

FETTERMAN SLAMS ANTI-ISRAEL AGITATORS, SAYS DISRUPTION ‘MAKES YOU AN A--HOLE’

"I think at this point, there’s such resiliency to understand that this is good versus evil," Burg said. "I think there’s an understanding that this is the right fight."

There is also an understanding that Israel will not be surprised again, he said, and the people of Israel know how to hit back.

"This is the Holy Land. There is a certain sense and a certain deep, deep belief in God, that God is there to protect us and help us on our journey," Burg added. "We’ve been picked on and bullied. It’s just our story."

Despite these attacks, people in Israel are preparing to celebrate Passover to honor the story of Israelites escaping slavery in Egypt.

"We get together to talk about how, over 3,000 years ago in Egypt, we were enslaved. We were forced to build the pyramids. And then God sent Moses to save us and bring us out of slavery," Burg said. "If anything, the Passover holiday is about good triumphing over evil.

"We have an understanding that as long as we're moral, just ethical, as long as we move forward in the right way, then we're going to thrive. And all those nations throughout the years that, you know, tortured us and beat us up, they're all gone. And yet we're still here in our homeland that we've been in for 3500 years," he added. "So, I think that there's a really uplifting of spirit and soul, with this holiday and, I think if anything, we're just going to come out stronger."

Ultimately, the message Burg sent was that countries can continue to attack Jews, no matter where they are, God will protect them.

Iran’s government, he said, is not the government the people of Iran want — they want freedom.

Burg continued to say people in Iran want to express themselves as they have been oppressed for so long.

"We have to take a really strong stand, and hope and give a little push, and watch this government fall, and watch the beautiful people of Iran take over and create peace with the rest of the world," he said.
